Turkmen official commentary views country as "centre of regional
stability"

Turkmenistan has become the centre of stability and spirituality in the
region, says a commentary by Turkmendowlethabarlary, the country's only
official news agency. The commentary posted on the official web site
Turkmenistan.gov.tm on 2 August says that "In our uneasy and unstable
times, there is a growing demand for spiritual support because every
individual needs a permanent reinforcement of moral strength."

As a source for "permanent moral strength", it recommends the Ruhnama,
the moral code compiled by President Saparmyrat Nyyazow.

"The spiritual path of the Turkmen people, described in the great book,
is the same spiritual source, from which the thinking and progressive
mankind can satisfy its thirst for genuine values of life," it says.

Recalling numerous agreements Turkmenistan has made with foreign firms
and companies, the commentary says that the policy pursued by President
Saparmyrat Nyyazow on establishing and strengthening mutually
advantageous cooperation with foreign countries and first of all with
its neighbours has turned Turkmenistan into the area of stability and
prosperity.

This policy has been approved by the world community including the USA,
says the commentary, recalling the recent visit by Commander of the US
Central Command Gen John Abizaid to Turkmenistan.

It quoted Gen Abizaid as saying that the US government highly
appreciates cooperation with Turkmenistan because "there is a great
potential in this cooperation for interaction in maintaining the
regional security".

More areas of stability in the world mean more peace in our homes, the
commentary concludes.
